David "Waxer" Tipton

Raised in Hawai'i, David "Waxer" Tipton, a "local haole boy" grew up waxing surfboards for his Dad and other surfers on the beaches of O'ahu (earning him the nickname "Waxer" at an early age). In addition to his love for surfing, Waxer's Dad also had a passion for the Lord and was the Pastor of First Baptist of Honolulu for many years. Waxer was raised on the town side of O'ahu near Papakolea, Waxer was immersed in Hawaiian culture and tradition. Because of this, his father's love of surfing, and his parent's commitment to the Lord, Waxer was given a wealth of opportunities through which he gained his great love for the Lord and the local Hawaiian culture.

His Christian ministry began while still in school. Waxer's love of surfing helped him reach out to fellow surfers and while he was in College, this began a ministry called Surfers For Christ. It was from this ministry that he began to bring the word weekly and bi weekly and began to see the Lord moving in peoples lives. Soon after, Waxer came on staff of a local church as their youth pastor. This eventually led to his going to Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California for further Christian education.

Waxer has pastored in churches in California in San Diego, San Clemente, Santa Barbara; and in Hawai'i on the islands of Moloka'i, and O'ahu. (Notice these are all GREAT surfing locations! Who doubts God gives us the desires of our heart?!)

In 1989, while serving with a church in San Clemente, California, Waxer met his beautiful wife, Cindy. They were married in 1991 -- where else but on surfboards in the middle of the Pacific Ocean -- and have been happily exploring life together, wherever the Lord leads, ever since. Their mini-black Lab dog named Kona, helps keep them fit on his/their daily walks.

Waxer's passion is exegetical teaching of the word of God, and it's practical application in evangelism and apologetics. He believes the Word of God should be educational, comforting, convicting, and fun. Waxer completed his formal education through undergraduate studies at San Diego State University (SDSU) and Point Loma Nazarene College (PLNC); his graduate degree at Fuller Theological Seminary; and post graduate work at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; but loves the lessons learned through God-given experiences -- those that life teaches, the most.

Since moving back to O'ahu in August of 2004, Waxer and Cindy have been an integral part of planting this new church, One Love Ministries; faithfully relying on the Lord's wisdom, purpose and direction for their life.
